Hi All - our liner was put in with foam only on half of one wall, I’d like to have it on the walls all around. Is it possible to drain the water down to the bottom of the walls, pull the liner out of the track and away from then skimmer and two returns and down far enough so the foam can be put on the remainder of the walls, then pull the liner back up and and around the fittings and snap back into the track?

It’s not noticeable at all having the liner right up against the wood walls, but there is a little cushion behind the liner where the one section of foam is, which is nice.

How old is the liner?

Are you going to try and do that maneuver or hire someone to do it?

You going to try and do it now or in the heat of the summer?

Liner was put in in June.
Would definitely hire someone to do it.
Would wait until we open pool in the Spring.

I looked through the forums and there’s are a lot of posts that talk about it what we have going on, which is the liner fits into the corners perfectly and we have liner lock there and all around the pool, as you go down the wall the liner gets rounded, then as you go below the waterline it starts to be more tight in the corners.

In other words, the liner isn’t pulling away from the track, it’s below the track where it’s away from the wall, then as you go under the waterline it sits into the corners better.

And some of the posts talk about their liner being that way for 10-15 years or more and never having been a problem.

I don't think that juice would be worth the squeeze. You would have to return the liner to the same exact position for the skimmer and inlets and hope that it didn't shrink after it is drained and pulled out. Doing this on a small pool would be difficult; doing it on a larger pool would probably be impossible. Doing it in cold weather would only complicate an already complicated process.

IMO too much emphasis is put on the warmer weather suggestion for liner work. Both of my pools were filled with 55 degree water and while the upper parts of the liner may have stretched better in the sun, the most critical bottom areas which needed to stretch shrunk like a frightened turtle. It's not as simple as waiting for a warm day when the well/municipal water is still cold.

Am I chasing a unicorn in thinking that the liner could sit tightly into the corner from liner channel that has liner lock down to the floor bottom in a 90 degree corner pool?

Anyone else that has square corners but the liner is rounded in corners either at the liner track, meaning it has pulled out of the track or is rounded below the liner track, care to chime in and how long has it been like that without any issues.

Both of my liner pools made their own slightly different radius in each corner. It's not best practice to use 90s on the liner track but both worked fine.

I know what a radius is for the corners, so is that what you have, not just where the liner track is but all the way down to the floor - something like a triangle wedge of some kind that fills the void behind the liner where there would be an air pocket?

My air pockets in the 90 corners do just fine by themselves. The liner made it's own radius for each corner. The old liner was going strong at 8.5 years when we moved. Just wrapped up season 3 at the new place.

So this would apply even if we just drained so there’s roughly an inch or two left in the shallow, pulled the liner down all around just to the bottom of the walls so that the foam could be put on the walls?

I’m envisioning the liner being able to be put back around the fittings (skimmer and two returns) and then into the track.

In my mind I’m thinking that weight of the water that would be in the deep end/up to the top of the slope would hold the liner in place. I’m envisioning the process as unhooking the liner and folding it down so all of the walls are showing, glue the foam to the walls, then pulling the liner back up and into the track.

That all sounds good BUT I am here to tell you that I have not seen even 1 liner being able to be rehung around the cut openings. Many have tried and all have failed :( Now if you don't mind doing a BIG patch in the areas of the openings you might be able to do it. There is still a big chance it does not work due to the patch not staying bonded to the liner.

It is up to you. You know of the risks. We will help you the best we can no matter what you decide.

I knew it was likely a fool’s errand, but I always like to have a few different perspectives on things that I have no knowledge of.

Anyway, do any of you all have wall foam or if not wish you had it? From everything I’ve been reading it seems like it really makes no difference as it flattens out to be super thin anyway.
