I had a new liner installed early June. We had a very wet June with lots of rain so my pool never had an opportunity to get low. A couple weeks ago I noticed I had lost about an 1 1/2" of water in just a couple days. I thought it was hot and dry so chalked it up to evaporation. Last week the pool was again low so I added water and left town for a week. Two days later my pool lady calls and says you need water!
Over this past weekend I did the bucket test, it is not evaporation! My pump does not run over night so I am pretty certain I do not have a pressure leak since I lost an inch of water overnight.

I let the water leak out until it stopped. I lose right at 2" of water which is just enough that my skimmers are not getting enough water. I bought a die kit and since the water level stopped dropping I know it is not the bottom or bucket of the skimmer boxes, I know it is not the main drain and I know it is not the light. The water is still on the skimmer box frames across the bottom so I am relatively certain it is leaking either on the sides of one of the skimmer face plates or along side the steps where the steps meet the liner. Once I get the water level back up above the leak I will use the detector again and try to figure out where it is leaking.

Yes, I called the pool guy that installed the liner twice and both times he is like oh you got a leak let me call you back. I have yet to get that call back so I am thinking he is not coming to help me!
IF it is leaking where the liner meets the steps how would I repair that? Or if it is leaking around the faceplate of one of the skimmers? Remove the faceplate and silicone the heck out of it to create a gasket?

Long post I know

Inspect the skimmer mouth, pathway and skimmer body for any cracks. It may be a crack, not the seals. If you find any post up.

The best solution would be to have the liner installer fix it. That may not be feasible if they won't call you back. I'd call daily.

The next best is to hope it is the skimmers. Order replacement gaskets, lower the water below the skimmer, remove the faceplate, and install new gaskets. You can typically find the skimmer part number on the underside of the skimmer cover. Post up what you find for the make/model of the skimmer and we'll help with the right gaskets and placement. Do not use silicone sealant, your problems will multiply.

If that doesn't fix it, post up and we'll deal with the steps.

Mine was leaking at the skimmer because apparently at one point the simmer was cut out and replaced and they didn’t quite get it lined up to the back of the pool wall. There was the tiniest bit of space between the bottom of the skimmer and the wall. Replacing the gasket couldn’t fix it in my case so I got some under water epoxy from the pool store and sealed it up with that. That was 5 years ago and it hasn’t been and issue since.

I have not been online in some time and have not seen these posts. After two weeks the pool guy finally called me back, He told me to let it leak until it stopped then to call him. So it leaked down for 2 days, I let it leak another 2 days just to make certain that it was done leaking. The water level only changed 1/4 of an inch the last two days which coincided with my bucket of water.
He showed up the next day, and did the same things that I had already done. He tightened every screw again but I did notice that his guy doing the steps was there for longer than it would take to tighten a few screws. He told me to fill the pool again and let him know. So I put in 2,400 gallons of water and then did the bucket test again. Lo and behold the bucket and the pool went down the same amount. I monitored the levels for 2 days before I had to leave town and the two dropped the same amount. about 1/2" per 24 hours.
I just got back home after being gone for almost 2 weeks. I am considering just closing the pool this week since we are leaving again next week for 3 weeks and I have no pool cleaner since my Nautilus CC Plus has decided to die and my neighbor lady that watches for us is also going to be gone. I also get a ton of leaves this time of year. Sure wish I had an auto cover!! LOL

So long story short, I think it was leaking at the steps and they fixed it without knowing that they fixed it.
