Pool is all of 15 months old at this point, and there's one spot that a few months ago just felt like a deep footprint. Have been out of the pool for a few weeks because of weather, got in today, and that deep footprint is now really deep and when I feel it, it's rubbing up against something sharp. I haven't gotten under the deck yet, but I'm guessing it's a concrete footer for the deck or a big rock.

By really deep I mean maybe 6 inches, but I didn't grab a measuring tape.

Wondering if any one has some advice on what to do to keep this from turning into a pool draining tear. My current plan is to get under the deck later this week and try to fill that hole with topsoil and sand, but I suspect that with 4.5 feet of water pushing into that little hole, it's going to be a lot harder than I imagine.

If it is under the liner bottom the only solution is to drain, repair the area & ensure a sufficient cove. If it is not near your skimmer & returns you may get away with peeling it back in just that area without effecting the skimmer/return cut outs but draining definitely risks liner shrinkage so be prepared to get a new liner if it doesn’t reseat properly. It needs to be warm when u attempt this & the liner needs to be kept wet. You also want to identify the true cause, if it is a footer for the deck it may have moved/shifted in the ground due to winter heave or poor drainage around the pool that allowed water to go under the liner & wash things out . The deck footers should not be under the pool so that would need correction. You can attempt to fill it in from the outside but it will likely just be a temporary fix (if it works at all) especially if the root cause is not addressed.
Did u install the pool & deck yourself or someone else?

The pool and deck were installed by 2 different professionals, not by me.

I got under the deck today to investigate, the issue is not visible externally, and there's no way it's the deck footer, that was just a coincidence in location. So it must be eroding near a rock. But the backfill in that location is just fine, so I'm not sure why it's eroding there... maybe a burrowing animal, or just odd water run off?

Either way, I'm not going to dig around to try and find it as I'm as likely to make it worse as fix it, time to call in a professional unless someone here has a magic fix for me that I can do myself. This feels expensive...

A leak can cause a divot where it washes the sand away which is why i asked about mushiness.
Just buried a 4-6 inches isn’t a risk when draining so that’s in your favor 👍🏻
