I posted several days ago about our pool losing water with the winter cover on. We removed the cover 7 days ago and the pool had lost about half of its water (I noticed the liner sinking just over the past few weeks, so I think the water loss is recent). I measured the water at that time and over the course of about 36 hours, we lost almost an inch, which I feel is too much. I got in and did a brief check and couldn't see any obvious holes. We went on and filled the pool because I was concerned the situation would become worse if we couldn't run the pump and keep the water clear. We continued to lose water over the week, close to 1" daily. I got in again yesterday and still couldn't find any damage, however I noticed numerous spots where the sand had become displaced around the bottom rim and was bulging out. It was also along the seam. Could this bulging be a tell tale sign of something that could be contributing to our leaky pool? The pool and the liner are 3 years old.

I think you are the one who had another thread where you mentioned that you noticed what might be channeling in the sand under the bottom edge of your pool?

I think at this point it is clear you have an issue with the liner. I asked about the seam because I was wondering if that is failing - maybe not a big spot, but very small leaks along the seam.

I feel like you are going to have to replace the liner. I don’t recall if you mentioned what type of AGP you have?

Any way of showing a photo of what you mean by the sand being displaced at the bottom? I assume your pool has a sand cove?

Not sure about the sand cove. It was professionally installed, so not sure if that was something that is usually done. I tried to take a pic, but not sure how well it interprets. I would say some of the bulges go out about 4”.

A permanent AGP needs a cove, otherwise you are putting too much strain where wall meets floor. It also protects your liner from trying to escape under the wall.

Sounds like you might have a sand cove, and it either washed out in places or wasn’t built up enough. Here’s a diagram showing proper and improper sand cove:

Many of us choose to use a foam cove to prevent it from washing out.

Thanks for the info. Any way that can be remedied if we are able to find hole in liner/leak in seam and patch it? Also, is it usually the ground water that is responsible for this? Our pool was built on a slope (not extreme).

Runoff from a storm can certainly contribute to this.

I don’t know how you could patch a leak you can’t see, without taking liner down to make sure you are structurally sound in your cove, etc. And once you’ve done that, reusing the same, possibly damaged, liner is problematic.
