Our pool has lights, I think. There's a "something" on the pool wall beneath the waterfall fixture. But I'm not finding a switch nor a breaker that's marked for lights so I haven't found the circuit for them.

What's a "usual" install for pool lights? I'd prefer to find a well-insulated install with a cable in PVC conduit. Am I expecting too much?

There is a plastic " dog-house" outside the pool enclosure, I'll see if I can't post a picture later, but I'm blessed if I can see how to control it.

Hi Chuck,
The light nich does have a conduit fitting on the back of it and the light fixture cord is in the conduit. It is a wet conduit though, meaning it has water in it. The light cord is fully waterproof.

There are a couple if normal installation methods for installing the light, depending on where you live.

Method 1. The conduit coming off the niche will stub up and go into a J box. It won't be far from the pool edge and it will be maybe 1 foot high above the ground. The power cable from the switch, timer or controller will route from there and connect to the pool light cable in the J-Box, usually with wire nuts.

Method 2. The conduit will run all the way to the control panel, timer, or light switch.

That's how it should be installed.

Now having said that, some installers and owners do some pretty crazy things so basically, who the heck knows ....
 
Thanks, you are describing about what I expect should be in place. Attached are photos. Turn on the power switch and I hear a blower. Why is there a blower? And if I turn it on I see nothing in daylight.
I will Google the label (last picture) and try the switches tonight.
Will post what I find out.

Chuck,
The 3rd pic suggested you have a Fiber optic light fixture. The bulb is housed inside that enclosure. The sound of the blower you are describing is what I would assume coming from the fan to cool down the bulb during operation.

Anyway, my understanding is very limited to this type of pool lighting. I'm sure others can help you more.
 
Fiberstars is a fiber optic lighting system as mentioned. If you aren't seeing any light at night once the switch is turn to on the the bulb in that case housing is most likely burned out. I believe they are halogen bulbs and the fan keeps then cool during operation.
 
That would be an easy fix if the bulb is a regular Halogen. But I will not hold my breath.
The label indicates "HID Luminaire". That would suggest it has a HID bulb and the problematic ballast. But I don't own one, so don't count on me! :gone:

update: My search for model 6004 yields a handful of helpful infos. The bulb is a Metal-Halide and LED conversion is also available.

@OP, you may want to keep this Fiberstar Owners Manual and Troubleshooting guidelines for reference.

I had downloaded and printed both the PDFs. They are in our "Pool" 3-ring binder.
They're passable, could use some fleshing out[emoji2]
Turned on the unit last night to see and there's the one light that would be behind the waterfall and another on the wall at the deep (6') end.
Wife and I agreed, that if that doesn't light up the whole pool, why bother?
I also turned on the color wheel but never saw any change in the lights. So that needs more investigation.
The test kit, a Taylor 2006 (due in tomorrow) will give me more to work with.
