Lightining strike took out timer - Heater - Chlorinator - Light

There was obvious damage to the Chlorinator circuit board. Replaced with Amazon parts and is good. Timer Intermec motor replaced


My Jandy JXI control pannel lights up with no errors but does nothing else. No blower fan, no lighting clicks. I opend the side pannel and dont see anything obvious (Burnt wires or burnt circuit board)
Any ideas before I call comeone out to repair? Anything I can check?

Also, I can hear the LED light transformer kick on but no light. Should I just replace?

Lots you can check if you have a multimeter and know how to use it to check voltages and continuity.

May be a blown control board or Fenwal module.

I know it's not good practice...and can appreciate your stance on that.

I opened the Fenwell box and it's fried. I'll get out the multimeter for the light.

If the Fenwal is toasted like that chances are there is other damage as the current found its way into the Fenwal.

Let me emphasize Allen's point about shotgun replacement of parts. That can get very expensive especially on that heater. When you see a board that's like it has had a forest fire on it yes replace is likely needed. If not, do some diagnostics. Lightning can be very frustrating because it can do very weird things. If you check everything out and still can't find an error run a temporary new power to the heater all the way back to the breaker. In my case lightning had caused almost microscopic perforations in the hot wire that caused enough leakage to ground that it interfered with the micro-amp current to ground needed in the flame sense circuit. So I kept getting the IGN error even after replacing several components that were obviously fried but not the ones that tested good. I came very close to replacing the blower and the control board that would have cost well over $500 before I ran the temp power wire. When I did that everything worked perfectly. $30 of wire was a lot better. We sold the house eventually but the heater is still going strong almost 10 years now.

I forgot to add, Welcome to TFP! Sorry you're starting with this kind of problem. Also, know you're in good company here. Most of us got here trying to find a solution to a problem and often frustrated with service providers that just want a big bite from your wallet that doesn't make sense. Fortunatly I am back up and running by replacing the boards with visibal physical damage.

Timer Intermec $40
Chlorinator $130
Heater $170

Now that the pool is warm I can investigate the pool light. Its a Pentair Intellibright about 15 years old. I wonder if its worth messing with or just replace the unit at this point.
