Light not working- indication of where leak is?

Hi Everyone

I am in the process of locating a small leak in my pool and believe when I get home tonight I will confirm it is on the pool, not the pipes;

At the same time my light, which I replaced he bulb only 2 seasons ago is not working properly, very dim.

So my question is, is a light not working a possible indication that the leak is in there?

I have tried dye testing the area and it does not seem to be but I understand the dye test is not always easy to detect.

Thanks for any help!

Most likely not. The light itself can be considered an external feature to the pool - it consists of the fixture attached to a cable which runs through a conduit to a switch on an electrical circuit. On the pool side, you have an enclosure with some sort of gasket to the wall, and contains the conduit, all of which can hold water. So if the light isn't working, then it's something in the light system (bulb, circuitry, leak in the light itself). The leak is somewhere on the pool side, which could indeed be the light enclosure or conduit - but the light not working is likely unrelated to the leak.

If the leak persists with the pump off, then it's likely in the pool itself (but could still be in areas like main drain). Common places are near the skimmer, returns, stairs, and drains. Keep trying the dye test in those areas and you should be able to find it!
