Finally getting to the reconstruction phase of my project and am in the process of running new PVC conduit between the niche and junction box.

Is there a best practice with regard to how the conduit is run? By that I mean is it better to limit the length of conduit below the water line to minimize how much conduit is flooded?

My proposed conduit run would be approximately 35 feet horizontally below the waterline then bring it up to ground level into the junction box.

Code requires no more then 4 90s in a light conduit. The less 90s the easier it is to pull light wire.

Straight runs can be whatever is necessary.

@ajw22 ,

Thank you for the information.

I will have the equivalent of 3-1/2 90's in my proposed run for the shallow light and two 90's in the deep end conduit.

All of the installation instructions I have seen for the forming shell show the conduit exiting the niche and immediately rising above the waterline so I wanted to get the input of the experts here before I got too far along doing something I would regret later.

The best is to locate a pool light junction box near the pool and the conduit rises up fairly rapidly. That minimizes the wire pull needed to install and replace light.

I understand why it may be difficult finding a good place for the light junction boxes around some pool designs but I think many builders don't try hard enough to find a suitable location.

The diagram is a schematic showing the code requirements and not a build specification.

My pool light junction boxes are within 10 feet of the pool. You say you are running yours 35'. There is no place closer you can place the junction box? The people replacing pool lights in that pool for the next 50 years will thank you.

My plan is to use a single junction box for both pool lights. The deep end light is only 5-6 feet from the pool edge and the proposed junction box install location but the shallow end light is approximately 30 feet horizontally from the proposed junction box location.

I understand your solution and could install a second junction box for the shallow end light then daisy chain the two junction boxes together but figured my solution would be less expensive (one less junction box to purchase) and a cleaner/simpler installation since there would be a single box rather than two.

Food for thought and I see your point about the ease/difficulty of replacing the shallow end pool light in the future.

Use multiple junction boxes. I have three lights and three junction boxes around my pool. And them three wire feeds from the junction boxes to the equipment pad where they are connected together.

Additional cost is small for the long term benefit.
