The new pool with rust saga continues. The coping stones were mortared to the lid trays. One of the trays has been left uncovered and now is covered in rust. I thought the coping stones were supposed to be lifted off of the lid trays and then the lid tray could be opened. Any ideas on why this could be rusting so badly? The trays have been there less than a month. Before I had rust spots in the pool and it was thought that it may be from the landscapers metal blade- they resolved with vitamin C tablets and metal out. Is this something the landscapers should’ve known not to use?

Did you manage to get this sorted? I've been waiting months to have my coping tray lids installed and they look exactly the same (Pool Cover Specialists).

Do the metal trays just sit on the grip tape of the bracket, or are they fastened, and was the coping supposed to be mortared on?!

They mortared the stones directly on top of the rust, I still don’t know how to open the coping trays and cannot find any YouTube videos. 😩

I'm not sure what you mean by opening the coping trays. Are you referring to lifting them up? There should be a gap between them, so they are separate entities. But you start in the middle of the pool somewhere and grab the poolside edge of one of the trays and lift up a bit. Then pull forward towards the pool a little bit to get your hand behind the tray and lift out. If that doesn't make sense, please post a picture of your current setup for reference.

here is a similar thread in regard to cover boxes.

We used stone, on top of the brackets. The stone is just placed there, and there is no mortor.
The pieces of stone are very heavy, and can be walked on.
We were told the cover company is used to this, and if they need to perform maintenance, they can lift them (with 2 strong guys).
