Lesson Learned!!! About SLAM...

I've had my water pretty stable, in a good place. Two days ago raised the TC to 7.0. CYA is 50. It was overcast and cool all day yesterday, so I was predicting a drop to about 5.5.

Tested yesterday at the end of the day, and TC tested at 2.0. I was floored. Couldn't believe it could drop 5ppm in one overcast day in the 60s...."Must be something in the water", I said.....I did let the chlorine drift below minimums last week when i got lazy, but only for one day! I was not happy.

Immediately went to garage, retrieved 4 bottles of 10%, which would raise my FC by 20ppm, up to 22. Dumped it in (slowly of course...i would NEVER break the rules!!). :)

Went out to eat...came back about 2 hours later to test. FC tested at 25.5!!!!! Meaning after raising it by 20, it was indeed at 5.5!!!!

What I learned is that when you get an odd result on a pool that is stable, TEST AGAIN!!! Holy Crud...the 2.0 was obviously a false test for some reason.....instead of merely testing the water again, I got mad and immediately went into SLAM mode.

This morning tested again, and still steady at 25.5....so passed the overnight test. My kneejerk reaction cost me a few gallons of chlorine....

Lesson learned.

Don’t be so quick on the trigger cowboy. ;)

Better to slow down and follow a structured diagnostic approach when something looks out of the ordinary.

well... on the positive... ain't nuffin' growing in *that* pool today! :hammer:

It could have been so much worse. We've read about people accidentally pouring MA in thinking it was bleach. See? You are doing fine!
