Leaking Skimmer Gasket

Last fall when we had the pool winterized, they found that one of the skimmers had a failed gasket between the faceplate and the liner of the pool. They had to lower the water level to below the skimmer to blow out that line. This summer the pool companies I contacted suggested against pulling the faceplate to replace the gasket as they were afraid the liner could shift. I would like to avoid lowering the water level again as we also have a wet deck that should remain below water to keep the liner in place.

Is there a sealant I could use between the skimmer faceplate and vinyl liner that will cure underwater?

I am not familiar with those sealants but think they can make your skimmer faceplate unusable at your next liner replacement and maybe require skimmer replacement if a replacement faceplate is not available. You could be opening up a can of worms depending on what skimmer model you have.
