Leaking pump seals

I'm trying to help a friend repair leaking O-rings on his EQ1000 pump.

I bought an O-ring set that I'm trying to install. Now I can't get the pump back together; the O-ring on the diffuser won't slide into the housing. I've already applied a generous amount of O-ring lube, but it's still not working. I've used two threaded rods to press the pump together, but it still won't go in. I'm afraid to use more force.

Am I overlooking something?

It's been a couple hours, did you get it yet? I recall someone else struggling with the same thing a couple days ago. Let us know if you still need help.

I've stopped working on it until I get more information, to avoid breaking anything.

Heating the oring in hot water did the trick eventually. Thanks guys!
