Leaking Jandy Filter - Advice Needed

I have a Jandy CL460 cartridge filter that is 8 years old. I noticed this week that it is leaking from the bottom. I inspected it very carefully and it is not leaking from the drain plug or the band. At this point I am assuming it has a hole/crack in the bottom.

I looked into replacing the bottom. Apparently the filter has been redesigned and it will require re-plumbing to accommodate the slightly different replacement size. All in all, I estimate the cost to replace the bottom, re-plumb, etc.. will be ~50% the cost of a new filter.

If going to a new filter, I would like to move away from Jandy. I have had trouble getting simple parts through the years for my Jandy equipment. I have a Nature2 Fusion (not in use) and struggled getting the proper fitting O-rings from Jandy a while back (it is now leaking again). It's frustrating to me that I can't buy simple replacement parts. When I inquired about a Jandy SWCG recently, I was told by an online retailer they were taking business away from online retailers and going through "authorized" Jandy dealers only. I want to be able to buy parts online and replace them myself when needed.

Obviously, I don't want to pay the extra cost for a new filter if it's not necessary. Will having a new bottom with an 8 year old top/pressure gauge be perfectly fine? Or should I go ahead and purchase a new filter that will hopefully give me trouble free years ahead? And finally, if going for a new filter, what other brands would you recommend (I'm not sure where to start)?

My filter housing is 7 years old, and if it leaked I just replace the whole thing. I know ... easier said than done since it's not my $$$. So I am "virtual spending" on your behalf. But knowing the bottom failed awhile holding on to an old top half may just be a sign of things to come. The other concern though is that when replacing the filter, it's often a good time to look at other things like pad size, plumbing connections, additional equipment, etc, so the list can grow. I know it will for me when the time comes.

Thank you for your advice. I wish this was happening a couple of years into the future.......I took over "management" of my pool recently. While the learning curve has been steep and I feel so much more confident, I know there is tons of information I do not know how to evaluate (pad size, plumbing connections, etc.???). I do want a VS pump and a SWG but I thought everything else was great .

From what I have read, is it fair to say I should buy the biggest filter that is in the budget?

For your 32K pool - yes. There are several 4-cartridge filters on the market for you to chose from. So once you select a model, you'll look at things like physical space on the pad, PVC connections to the existing lines, etc. There's no one specific way to run the lines on your pad, so you have options as long as you try to avoid too many crazy turns and such and leave yourself some room to work. You have a heater, so remember the SWG will go after that. The SWG is always last. But when you get ready, you can always draw-up a sketch of your proposed changes and let everyone here look them over for you.

The tank bottom is around $400. A new, comparable complete filter is going to be over $1000. If you are going to have it installed, then more. The 460 is plenty for your pool but if buying another, it never hurts to size up.
