Hi,

I’ve a very slow (drips every few seconds) water leak coming from under the spillover shelf (located with food dye test). The plaster has been applied right up to the base of the travertine shelf. No grout. What is the best way to repair this?
1) Apply grout as best possible between travertine shelf and existing plaster
2) Use a circular saw to cut a narrow line directly below the shelf to allow new grout to bond. Maybe about 1/8” below shelf and about 1/4” deep?
3) Any other alternative?

I’ve included a picture.

I’ve already used the recommendation from @ajw22 to use e-z patch 4 and fixed the cracks on the sides of the self. Thank you!

Any guidance to the above would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Tony

You can try putting a layer of grout along the seam and see how it works. I think it will look ugly and you will need to go over the area every year or two.

If the grout does not hold then you will need to saw cut a channel to fill with grout.

This is lousy construction and this area will need periodic attention.

Thank you for the insight. Any recommendations to achieve a more permanent repair? Maybe 2" of the glass tile to span across both the travertine shelf and about 1" of the plaster and from side to side for the width of the spillover....just an idea. Not sure how it will look or what should have been done originally.

Best regards

Tony
