What are the advantages/disadvantages to the flat, open faced leaf/debri bottom of the pool skimmers vs the type that has more of a closed end net basket type design? Brands you can recommend?

The flat ones are great for skimmer the top of the pool fast. They don't old much so if you have a heavy load the open net kind is better. The open net kind is MUCH better for cleaning the bottom as well. I buy mine at Walmart or Lowes depending on where I am when I need one.
