I started using the HDX paint strainers a little over a year ago. in cartridge filter time; that,s two cleanings. The things last forever. I'd probably still have the first one still installed if I hadn't been lazy and not wanted to rinse and reinstall but opted rather toss and replace with new one.
What prompted me to use these is a couple of neighboring redwood trees. The skimmer 'socks' catch the little tiny rice sized needles, preventing them from collecting at the bottom of the filter tank and brewing up a batch of tannin tea between scheduled cleaning.
