Keeping Pool Clean During Construction Standard Practice

During the install process the concrete collar and coping were installed. We are able to swim in the pool but there is additional concrete and water features to be installed. There is plastic installed to help prevent material from getting in the pool, but there is a noticeable amount of concrete dust, mortar, and half dollar size pieces of block/concrete in the pool.
The Installer claims they will just vacuum the pool and the clean the filter, no big deal. My opinion is the pool pump and filter should be used as a pool shop vac.
Is there another/better way to clean the pool?

The big pieces need to be removed by hand. Then they need to sweep the whole pool towards the shallow end. Once they get anything they did not get by hand they should use a REAL shop vac to remove the sweepable stuff. Once those two steps are done THEN they use their own equipment set up (pump and filter) to vacuum the pool.

FIFY.

I would not let them vacuum your pool as all the chunks have to pass through your pump to get to the filter.

Pool Service companies have standalone pool cleaner rigs that will vacuum the pool and dispose the effluent down a waste pipe. You can argue with your Installer on who should pay for that service.
