How accurate is this kit? It seems to test way low for me.

I am dealing with a pool that is losing water, for now it’s holding with the water feature off and the auto fill off so I added salt to 3400 on my RJ45 and it’s generating fine.

But when I test the water with the Taylor test kit it comes red at 13 drops which is 2600. Seems like it’s way off

MA,

The Taylor K1766 test is one of the most accurate and repeatable tests. Within 200 ppm

This is one test that works best with some kind of automation stir devices like the Speed-stir or similar units.

Thanks,

Jim R.

The instructions can be a bit confusing by it recommending you use the 25ml vial and fill to the 10ml line. Some make the mistake and fill to 25ml which may be your issue.
I filled it to 10ml and did the test twice. First was 12 drops and second was 13 drops

The SWG is actually measuring the conductivity of the water not the actual Sodium Chloride level. There are lots of other salts and minerals that will increase conductivity in addition to salt. My own SWG has a similar difference, the K-1766 test reliably indicates 2800, but the SWG will say anything between 3200 and 3800 depending on the time of day and temperature. The prevailing wisdom here is that as long as the cell is happy and making Chlorine then everything is fine.

Thanks that’s what I was thinking, when my salt dropped because of leakage the low salt started to blink but it was way low, right now it is about 3500 on the unit and working fine I plan to just leave it alone
