Just ordered tf100 XL and spinstir. Where do I begin?

At this point am I slamming the pool? This is kind of what lead me to the draining process because my water was getting algae too frequent. The steps were to lower cya then SLAM. I actually want to do this because I do not want to start seeing another algae bloom

Such a long thread I forgot where it started, lol. Double check your daughter's number, then raise your CH. Then you can start your slam. If your CYA is indeed 40, which is what I was expecting, your slam target is 16ppm. Raise it to 16ppm, then test again an hour or 2 later and raise back to 16. Keep doing this as often as possible, but no more than once an hour. You can test your FC using just 5ml sample and each drop equals 1ppm then, saves on reagent this way.
Keep at shock level until you can pass on OCLT. Also, don't worry about testing CC until you think you're about done, no point wearing that reagent.

Congrats to your kid :party:

Check your results after an hour to make sure everything is on target, and then start your SLAM. Remember, during your SLAM, pH test will show a false high result, typically way off the chart, so don't bother testing pH at all while slamming. Only thing you really need to test while slamming is FC, just make sure you get it back up to shock levels every hour or 2. The more diligently you check and raise your FC, the quicker the SLAM will be, just not more often than once an hour. Assuming your pool is nice and clear after all this draining and refilling, I suspect you'll only need to SLAM for a day or 2 before your pool is in perfect shape.

Thank you. I learned plenty over the past few days. I will definitely keep slamming it. Funny thing is the pool looked clearer than usual obviously after the water change and adding all the chemicals. Then I added ran the vacuum this morning and I didn't realize how much algae was sticking to the bottom because of the clean trail the vac was leaving behind. After work I will clean the filter, brush and add any needed chlorine. I'm definitely headed in the right direction

It would definitely help to have your daughter or spouse test every couple of hours while you work and top off the Chlorine. Sun will be working against the chlorine now.

Don't forget you can save your reagents by using 5ml samples and each drop equals 1ppm then.

Yes, I am subcontracting the work to my wife today :) but she will be out for a while.

I did try the 5ml method and I noticed the results were different by about 2-3 points. I will try both methods again just out of curiosity to see if I get the same results even though it defeats the purpose of saving drops.

10ml= 27 drops
5ml=10 drops

Definitely is not working as expected

Yea, just found this
The accuracy loss comes from the +/- 1 drop and from the estimate of the water volume. The one drop goes from 0.5 ppm FC to 1 ppm FC. An error of, say, 1 ml out of 5 ml is 20% error while out of 10 ml it is a 10% error. So for a given FC level, the proportional error from volume measurement of the sample is doubled and the absolute error from drop size relative to sample size is also doubled. When measuring 8 ppm FC, the error goes from 8*0.1 + 0.5 = 1.3 ppm to 8*0.2 + 1.0 = 2.6. So it is still linearly proportional in error.

so looks like being a little over or under with measuring 5ml throws the accuracy off pretty bad, and the normal margin of error is even worse. Definitely only use the 10ml test.

Ok, you're in the swing of it now. Just test the FC now as often as you can, using 10cc of pool water and one heaping scoop of powder. The more often you test and re-dose, the quicker this goes. Hourly isn't too often even.

May the SLAM Force be with you!

And don't forget - lots of brushing!

Also, check all of those nooks and crannies for algae - inside the skimmer, skimmer lid, behind your pool light (many people remove the retention screw and let it hang during a SLAM to allow fresh, chlorinated water into the alcove). Remove any ladders, check under the steps/inside of the ladder ballast, etc. If it might be wet and under the waterline, check it.

Good luck and keep us in the loop!
