Just opened first tests with tf-100

I just opened after winter and pool looks okay. No visible green. Water cloudy but okay. Test results are in CYA is little high because i was using dichlor last year. This year i am doing liquid bleach.

I may need a skimmer replacement so i did not add water yet. I just started SLAM procedure and looks like a good start.

FC:0
PH:6.8
TA: 70
CH 375
CYA100+ of the charts

after 10g 8.25% liquid bleach
FC 38ppm
CC 1ppm

now i need to get more bleach to add on later in the day

I do have a in wall return that is below the water level doing the part plus my robot is in.

I just tested again at 12pm and my fc is 45ppm. So I am assuming that I did the first test either wrong or did not wait enough for bleach to mix up.

I will post another result in like an hour. Lots of yard work to do.
 
I agree with you, but I am still waiting on pool company to come and check the skimmer. In the meantime I do not want to raise my water levels just yet.
After adding some chlorine my pool does look clear. I am just waiting for the fix and hopefully after the skimmer replaced I can bring down my CYA to at least measurable limits.

At this point I just stopped adding more chlorine as well as running the filter for couple reasons.
1) tests are just inconclusive since my CYA is too high,
2) water aeretes before returning to pool which increases the PH if I run my filter. it was around 7.8 last time I checked
3) I see some discoloration on my liner due to high levels of FC which scares me so I do not want to do any more damage.

I will check daily still and do some test tonight. Last night my FC was around 48 ppm.
Brushing still lifts little bit of cloudy dead algae from the bottom of my pool. hoping my robot will clear the rest.

QUESTION: should I be using Clarifier or Flocculant at this point to catch those smaller particles that is too small for either my sand filter or robot (with cartridge filter).
And should I be adding more Sparkle Up or DE

Have you tried the diluted test to get a better idea of where your CYA is?

From Pool School:


  1. If your CYA level is 90 or higher, repeat the test adjusting the procedure as follows:
    • Fill the mixing bottle to the lower mark with pool water.
    • Continue filling the mixing bottle to the upper mark with tap water.
    • Shake briefly to mix.
    • Pour off half of the contents of the mixing bottle, so it is again filled to the lower mark.
    • Continue the test normally from step 2, but multiply the final result by two.

No I did not, but thanks for bringing to my attention. I remember now reading it several times in the forum but just did not remember to do that for my own. I can do it probably tomorrow morning because it will be way to dark when I am home tonight,
 
Wait... did you come up with 60 doing the test the regular way? You were at 100+ before...

It was the diluted test, thats why it gives me some hope that my numbers are not extremely high. Plus we are getting some heavy rains (past and expected days) that will also contribute my water levels.
EDIT: I just read the complete diluted instructions so my final number should be 120 (60*2) with the diluted test
 
SO I have an update on Skimmer replacement which is just not feasible because of price and timing - Memorial day - almost all pool companies are booked well into June, and I will be on vacation most of June. I will try to pass the season as much I can and tackle with it next season or before the winterization - aka when I have time to do the job.

I will replace some water and hopefully my CYA levels will go down, its been raining a lot lately which also contributes to my water levels.

Anyone suggest using Clarifier or Flocculant to take the last tiny particles out of water.
 
with the recent rains like every single day, now my CYA levels are down to good levels. last i measured was 70 which is good i think. My new problem is now my pool may overflow :) I will try to backwash or waste to get some water out but all this rain destroyed my yard. Lawn is like a sponge it is saturated to the limit. My sump pump is running constantly. But rain is good hopefully it wont harm other people with floods.
