Hi - I'm new to this site. We have the Jandy AquaPure 1400 which was installed in 2007. We have all Jandy equipment - 3 pumps (1 was upgraded to the variable in 2015 and Jandy told the contractor to add a chip to the panel to make it communicate with the rest of the system), a hand held PDA, heater, and the filtration tank. The first salt cell lasted 5 year until 2013. In 2015 when we upgraded the pump to the variable, the 2 year old salt cell was starting to have issues. I might add that during this install process when we upgraded to the variable pump, Jandy never told our contractor that the 2007 panel will have issues with the new salt cells (more on this below) he was just told to add a chip. We got 1 more year with the cell and in 2016 we installed a new cell. Now in 2018 the center prong on the plug (3 prongs in total) is corroded and basically missing. Our pool is about 30,000 gallons and has never had algae or any issues. The current salt cell was not throwing error codes, we just unplugged it to clean it for the season and discovered the issue. After working with the Jandy head office (3 people) and forcing someone to address why the center prong eroded away and why the cell life is only 2 year, I was informed that my 2007 panel needs to be replaced with one called APUREM power pack (about $500) because the new salt cells are not fully compatible with the old panels. I was told there is no way to modify the current panel and that my cell will have a short life and possible corrode again. Has anyone else been told that you have to upgrade your entire panel now to have your salt cell work completely? Why did Jandy create a new salt cell that can't work with the old system? Jandy already requires home owners to have the salt cell professionally installed or they will not honor the warranty (which is 1 year if you just replace the salt cell and 3 years if you put in a panel and cell....who puts in a new panel every 3 years!) While investigating this issue, it has been suggested that since I have to put in a new panel and cell, that I walk away from Jandy and put Pentair in (using their panel and cell) as they are more reliable. Anyone ever mixed these 2 brands? Thoughts on this? I really would like to have all Jandy products, but I am disappointed that they are asking me to upgrade the entire panel and I am worried that they will switch things again in a few years and I will be right back to this same place. Thank you for your help.
