Jandy pump making squeaking sound at start up and shutdown

This has been going on for a few months, right at start up and shutdown I get this squeaking sound for about 2-3 seconds. Jandy is telling me it’s normal, I asked okay, then why did it not do this for the first 2years?

Any thoughts?

I have 2 jandy pumps (well, one is a polaris, but both jandy and polaris are owned by zodiac), and they both squeak a little at start and stop, and have done this since new. They're both about 2 years old now. I assumed it was normal, and think I read somewhere on line that it was as well.

My 3 year old Jandy pump has done the same on start up and shut down since it was installed.

My Hayward Tristar does the same thing. A squeak at start/stop every time since new.

I think that it's the seal as the graphite part rubs on the ceramic. I'm not sure why some seals do it. Maybe it's the specific composition of the graphite part.

I think that it's probably the seal. It might be the impeller rubbing but I think that it's most likely to be the seal.

It might go away. You could replace the seal but it's probably not worthwhile unless the pump is leaking.

The motor was replaced on this two year old pump in April 2018. Never made this noise until they replaced the drive. Is this the seal you speak of?

I suspect that it's the shaft seal. I don't know why it would squeak.

It might be the impeller rubbing if something doesn't fit right.

Maybe the bearings or fan, but, if the motor is new, that seems unlikely.

It might be worthwhile opening it up to check everything and replace the seal.

There's a hole in the back cover where you can insert an allen wrench and spin the shaft slowly to see if it's hard to turn.

They can squeak like that. It might not be anything wrong. It might go away.

Try spinning the shaft to see how it feels.

After watching the video, that's much worse than mine. My squeal is definitely less than a second in duration. I'd say that's probably not normal, but you already seem to be going down that track. Good luck.

Yeah, that doesn’t sound like mine either. There’s definitely something going on with that pump. Hopefully it’s a quick fix.

My Jandy VS also makes a little soft squeal when first starting to rotate. This video sounds much louder and "harsher" than mine. I would definitely ask Jandy to watch that video.

So the Jandy rep came out yesterday, states their pumps will make a sqeak on startup, but mine was excessive, they are replacing the entire pump.
