Jandy JXI400N - Trouble Air

Just a little epilogue here. I fired up the heater for its first long-term run this morning for this afternoon swimming. Started at 86 degrees at around 8am and cranked it to 92 which it got to around noon. Ambient temps were 70s (overcast) and low 80s (84 now). Seems to be working fantastically!

I still need to install the Jandy bypass kit.

Did it operate well when it was installed or was it always problematic? Just wondering if the leak was always present and maybe just so small at first as to not be too noticeable or was it a catastrophic fail at the start of this season?

I know past at least 2 years I've talked on the forum about water under the heater. It's been leaking at least that long not sure how much less efficient that would make it. It always did 1-2 degrees an hour though.

It would be nice if they could create a transparent combustion chamber to allow you to see what was happening inside.

Maybe you were getting condensation for some reason?

That could cause the observed wetness and it would also cause corrosion.

Where I live, small water leaks are actually really hard to detect because the water will evaporate before you ever notice it. The tell tale sign is to look for calcium staining and white crust. If you see that, you know something is leaking water. The drain plug on my heater spring a leak 2 seasons ago. It was barely noticeable until the cooler weather set in and then I saw some crust around the plug. I pull the panel and you could see a small wet area on the plastic bottom of the heater and some moisture there but it was nearly impossible to see from the outside.
