Jandy 2.0 HP motor (R0445104 model) bearing making lot of whine noise. I replaced the seal this weekend after having the pump down for the last few weeks.
Pump had run dry and gotten very hot. I replaced o-ring on suction pipe and lid gasket on pump at the same time as the mechanical seal. It runs well now and holds full basket where it did not before.
I believe the suction was pulling air.
The parts manual lists model R0479313 as the proper motor but the R0445104 is in place. The existing motor has service factor of 1.3 for total HP of 2.6. The model it "comes with" has a smaller service factor. Both motors are ~$500.

First question - replace the motor or pump?
Second question - the service factor can be lower than 2.6, correct? To match the "normal" motor at 2.2 total HP?
3rd question - can motors generally be repaired and reused?

Thanks.

1) If the wet end is in good condition, you can just replace the motor. You can also replace the motor with a VS motor or replace the entire pump. It is just a matter of cost.
2) The THP of the new motor must be greater than or equal to that of the old motor.
3) Yes, it sounds like your motor may have bad bearings which can be replaced. However, it may not be the best economical solution.
