Only thing I miss about living On LI NY, is the sandy soil. Well maybe the pizza and bagels too. LOLMy son goes to a military college in GA. We’ve lived out west since around 2009. Two things I have come to grips with -
1. These people west of the Mississippi wouldn’t know how to make good pizza if you spelled it out for them with crayons and sock puppets. It’s awful;
2. I buy bagels from back east and have them shipped here because, like point #1 above, they wouldn’t know what a good bagel is if it came up and bit them in the ….

Sooo … the ships probably sailed on this point as it probably would overrun your budget, but I’m guessing they’re going to backfill the overdig using the excavated soil??
That’s usually a big no-no in construction best-practices because that disturbed clay soil will never compact back to its original form. So if they fill the area around the pool walls with it, it’s going to take a while for it to stop subsiding. I suggest you hold off on any hard scaping around the pool for a while or else you risk issues with a deck sinking relative to the pool and causing all sorts of cracking issues. Even if the deck contractor uses good fill base material prior to installing a deck, the underlying soil is not stable. Clay is generally very expansive with moisture content so you need to be careful with regards to what you’re building around the pool shell.
I believe @Newdude had some time between his pool and his deck being installed. LI sandy soil would have different compaction issues but perhaps he may have an opinion on this.

That ship has sailed. Is what it is. The concrete around the pool will be poured in about a month.
They can use footer tubes down to the (already exposed) undisturbed earth and basically make the patio a bridge. Whatever settling happens beneath it wont matter.

Couple pics of the rare snow that ATL gets. Fun??? NOT. Moved here to avoid snow. The back wall is not as tall as the forms up, will be 2 ft. They are coming back Tuesday. We also are taking a leap with the darker liner...Royal Amber. It has a dark blue base, so hopefully when it does fade, it wont be as extreme as the medium blue liners.

The important part is that you like blue. Both will show you 500 shades of blue you never knew existed, and overlap most of those shades at different times.

Yes, blue is what we are after. I figure the dark blue buys us more time before its really faded. When we left NY last year, our medium blue liner after 10 yrs was dare I say almost white on the bottom. And why did you have 2 liners?
Welp...Let the cat out, thinking she would stay on the patio. Well she was banging on back door to come in. Looked like a crime scene with the red mud everywhere. UGH. Cat wasn't happy trying to clean her either. Guess shes not going back out until its completely done.
Couple new pics with forms removed. That back wall will be capped with flagstone, and front of it with a stone veneer. Behind the wall will be leveled out, and 3 or 4 ft bed with mulch and plantings.
Get rebar caps for the exposed rebar on the shell. Up to you if you demand the PB provide them or its less headache to spend a couple bucks at Lowes/Amazon.

Funny you mention that. The worker using the vibration tool for cement during pour, literally was walking over them, on the edges of the forms! I could only imagine a slip, and being impaled.

Its an osha regulation that they be capped. I would mention that to the contractor.
