Well the season is underway, a couple of days ago, the cover came off, yesterday we got the water filled to the brim, today I got the pump running. Checked the chems, FC=.5, CYA=0, PH=7.0, TA=150. Hmm, there is a 7kg bucket of "Sanitizer" I know that is roughly 50-50 CL and CYA, dumped a pile in, it's looking pretty good. Kid keeps asking "when can I get in?" when you can clearly see the bottom. Please note the temperature of the pool is 15C/60F, not that that will stop the 9 year old. I have about 30L of liquid CL, but I want that CYA up, so I figure use the powder in hefty quantities for a week or two, then check it again......

Anyone think this is a good plan, or do something else?

A good plan is to use Pool Math PoolMath
to calculate how much of what product you intend to use and how it will alter your water chemistry going forward. Testing your water after applying chems is also a good plan. Also you may not be getting a good reading on your CYA test with a water temp of 60 so test it again at room temp. Run an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test once you have raised your FC.

Been around this block a few times now... About 2 years ago, a pool company looked after the pool, $2.000 and the pool looked little better then it does right now, even in the height of summer. Numbers today FC=20, CC=2, PH 7.0. TA=140, supposed to rain all day tomorrow so I expect the PH to go up and the TA will go down. Given an FC of 20, I expect that CYA to be about 30-35 now, will test it in a couple of days. I know about the 60F took the water testing bottle, left it in the house at 22C for a couple of hours, which would have left the water at about 20C, before testing the CYA. The pool has been closed for 9 months, frozen for about 4 of that. Last year I said, stuff that, and using TFP to look after it, it was up and running completely in a week, and at the height of summer you could tell heads or tails on a nickle sitting at the bottom of the deep end...
