It took me 15 years but I added DE when the filter was still in backflush mode - must I clean the grids?

Hi

As the title says, I added my DE before remembering to switch the filter back to filter mode and all DE went into the pool.

I brushed and filtered and then backwashed and added DE the right way. Won't make that error again.

I had read here that there is no need to take apart the filter and clean the grids but when I first went online and did a search they said grid washing was necessary.

What is the right answer? I just opened the pool so prefer not to clean the grid but I will if need be!
