Is this pump cover worthwhile for my IntelliFlo to protect the electronics?

I purchased this pump cover after reading some articles concerning possible premature damage to the pump from sun/rain. Turns out that I will need to cut the cover to fit my location since the set of steps to my deck is behind the pump. I'm just looking for some opinions on whether it is worth it? I don't mind paying the $60 if a case can be made for it's usefulness but if not, I may just return it.

Thanks!

My pump has been exposed to the elements (115F summer heat to freezing overnight winter temps plus monsoon rains) and it is just fine. These pumps are designed to be outdoors and take a beating. My opinion is covering them is useless.

raw,

It is, or was, a known issue that water could collect behind the IntelliFlo's display and cause the display to quit working. There are a couple of threads here about how to take the control panel apart and fix the issue.

The problem is that how the water gets inside is not known for sure. Does it get in from a leak when raining, which the cover might help, or does it get in from condensation, which the cover most likely would not help.

I can't see the cover causing any harm, and it might help, who knows for sure???

That said, only a very small percentage of IntelliFlo pumps seem to have the issue..

I have two IntelliFlo pumps that have been outside, and unprotected, for almost 4 years and neither has had any problems.

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

I believe the ultimate problem with the blank displays was traced to loose electrical contacts behind the control board rather than moisture. My pump was one that was suffering from a blank display but a light tap with my flashlight "fixed" it.

In any event, I agree with @Joyfull that the pumps are designed to be outside and that this cover is more a solution looking for a problem. My pump has been outside for the past seven years and still going strong.
