Is this pool closing service unnecessary?

Hello,
I am posting on behalf of a friend who isn’t installed their new salt water inground gunnite pool and spa this year. The pool is BRAND NEW and this was the 1st summer of use.

They have been spending about $1,000-$1,400 a month for “routine service”, which is an entirely separate issue, but then they received this letter about closing the pool for the season:

Am I crazy, or is this crazy?

Neither.

A properly closed pool doesn't need the service.

A great many non TFPools need the service.

$130 is a good deal. I was at the tire shop with a flat before and they had a sign on the wall that they get $175 an hour for mechanic work, and they don't come to you. (Minimim 1 hour, of course).

Draining for those with mesh covers is a beneficial service for the not handy, physically unable, or not here for the winter people.

Topping off the FC in the process will help ensure a clear opening in the spring.

I usually drain mine twice and top off the FC if it's getting low. I like my $650 better than I like the hour or two total it takes, but i don't fault those that would rather have the hour or two.

I can’t say that their winter service offering isn’t of some value to certain clientele, and it’s not priced outside of what the market should bear.

This on the other hand is just well…..😵‍💫. I’d love to see what is happening monthly for that bill to ring up.

I didn’t realize there was also a monthly service required for some, once the pool was closed for the season!
It depends how well it was closed, and how hands off they want to be for up to 8 months.

I prefer it over the ignore and pray method. :)

Someone should be checking the pool periodically while it is closed for the things the pool service letter listed. If the owner does not want to do it then they can pay someone to do it.

The letter is a CYA letter for the service as well as marketing. If problems happen while the pool is closed the service will point to the letter and say we warned you the pool needed to be checked while closed.
