It doesn't matter how high or low the pH or Cl are I get these patches of yellow in the pool, they're about 12". Always at the same 4-5 places. Definitely after shocking the pool. I thought it could be algae but now I'm more going toward leaves residue. At the moment there are many leaves falling since we approach the dry season in Indonesia. This yellow stuff can be vacuumed away easily. I don't need a brush. Most of the time, it will be there again after vacuuming and brushing the pool the previous day. I can't believe it's algae. Very sometimes I have some very small patches of green algae at the walls of the pool, but those are spots where I didn't brush well enough. And I see the difference between the two of them. The yellow patches are only at the bottom. And the water itself is clear. Does someone have any ideas?
Second question is about the chlorine. You have to bare with me, here in Indonesia I can't get any proper testing kit and hardly any chemicals. This is what I have
- 20g and 200g TCCA tablets for shocking and maintenance
- Soda ash
- Sodium bisulfate
- OTO chlorine liquid with a level between 0.3 - 3
- digital pH meter
- useless testing strips for FC, TC, TA, Hardness, CYA
And that is really all I can get. No chemicals to raise the CYA, nothing to change the alkalinity of the water. Cannot get it. Better testing kit, I ordered it from Europe and it's waiting for me to be picked up but I'm waiting for the travel restrictions to go away. Test kits are on Amazon, but they won't send it to Indonesia. Great huh? So, basically most I can do is guessing and I don't like it at all. Also the pool seller is not much of a help when it comes to advise. Usually the Cl and pH fine and algae grows. Their only advise is to shock the pool or lower the pH to 4.5. That's it.
The pool is 53.000 L. Built in Nov 2019. pH is 6.8 (had to put it lower because of the algae), Cl is around 2. So far it works for me. When the pool has a pH of 7.2 and higher algae grows quite fast. When I shock the pool it takes more than a week for the chlorine to go down below 3 (according to OTO). I shocked the pool last Friday and the chlorine is at least above 5, but I can't measure it. And during the time of high chlorine (including high FC (test strips)) algae still grows. I can't measure it, but I would say the CYA is high, but the test strips won't give a reliable result. I don't know how high it is. When the water is a bit murky the other day, I drained 40cm of the pool water and it's cleared up within a day. The water became crystal clear. I have the idea that after I shock the pool or if the Cl is more than 3, the Cl gets locked because algae starts growing. The pool is in the hot sun 12 months a year. Pump is on 11 hours a day.
I've been thinking about draining all the water and get fresh spring water. Start all over again with 0 CYA. The CYA in my case can only come from the weekly TCCA tablets and from shocking the pool once a month.
I know it's hard to give an answer to this, but this is my situation. When you read this info, what do you think about the chlorine? Could the CYA be too high? Or what could be another reason the chlorine won't come down fast, even we have hot sun every day.
