Is there a better way to aerate than lowering the water then angling the jets up?

It looks like my TA problem (about 150ppm) isn't going anywhere, so I'm going to get some muriatic acid and when that's done its work, I'm going to need to aerate. With my last pool (probably less than half the size) I was able to lower the water until it was just over the jet and have it shoot the water into the air. Would that be the most efficient way I can do that? I might have to turn my skimmer off and use the floor drains.

D,

You should only worry about TA if you are having a hard time keeping pH somewhat stable. If you only have to add acid about one a week to keep your pH in the 7's, then you don't need to worry about TA. Over a long period of time, it will come down on its own.

If you just can't stand it, you can lower your TA, but it takes a couple of days or more. You have to lower your pH with acid, then aerate for two to four hours to bring your pH up to 7.5 or so, then add acid again, and you keep doing that over and over. At first TA will not move much, but for me at the end of two days the TA drops gets larger and larger. When I used to do this, I would drop the TA to about 50 as it will bounce back up to 70 pretty quickly.

I used something like this to aerate...

Thanks,

Jim R.

My water is still a bit cloudy. I thought that was TA.
Hehe, that's the kind of misconception that brought me to TFP all those years ago. That's when I learned it's 100% not a thing.

Agree with above, your FC/CYA balance appears to be way off, which would be more likely to be causing the problem than TA.

I'm going out to pick up some stabilizer tomorrow. I also haven't put any salt in yet. I wanted to wait until the last time I was to lower the level for a while, but maybe I can't afford to wait

What's this "FAS-DPD"?is that just testing FC and CC or do I need more than just my TF-Pro? It's not really practical for me to test before sunrise. But the sun stops shining on the pool around 2pm these days. Is it possible to conduct the test over the next 8 hours instead?

The fas dpd is in the tfpro
It is the r-0870 powder, r-0871 fc drops, & r-0003 cc drops -
It goes from pink (after adding powder) to clear as u add drops for each test.

It is differs from the OTO (yellow drops) which uses the comparator block

For The overnight chlorine loss test it must be dark - this eliminates the possibility of sun (UV) consuming any chlorine so any loss can then be attributed to organics in the water.
It is the only way to ensure there’s no organics/algae.

Oh... I just watched
again and it says that if my CC is more than 0.5ppm then I don't need to do the test, because I have organics consuming chlorine. Well, the last test I did revealed 2.5ppm of CC. So I might as well skip this step and go to SLAM, right?

Yes u sure can .
To end the SLAM Process you must perform an oclt as 1 of the 3 end of slam criteria so plan for that.

Some will use the SWG but I don't like that......even a little bit.

The SLAM involves the precise addition and measurement of chlorine. Running an SWG muddles that math you will be using and shortens your cell life. I do not think it is good practice.

In that case, should I be starting the SWG?
SLAM is done w/ liquid chlorine- the swg won’t help much at the beginning so might as well leave it off for now. It kinda confuses the process & can mask just how much fc you are losing between additions.

When the work week comes, if slam isn’t finished with, you may want to run it during the day to help keep up fc when u aren’t home, some do, some choose to leave it off. Depends on the size of your swg & if u want to use some of its life hours when u are already manually dosing.
There should be a sticker/plate on the side that tells u which model u have
