It was time for a new main pump and I wanted to go variable speed.
My independent pool pro quoted me for a "Hayward Tristar (jacuzzi) 2.7max hp" pump which I took to mean exactly that - a Hayward Tristar. Install day comes and he has it out of the box and plumbed in before I have eyes on it and it turns out to be a Jacuzzi Model# JVS270S variable speed pump. He explains to me that Hayward bought out Jacuzzi and this is the exact same pump for $250 less (his cost).
Now this is a fair guy with a good reputation locally and he's done good work for me before. I'm not complaining about him but wondering if I should be happy with the Jacuzzi pump or insist that I get a Hayward installed. I wanted a Hayward pump because of current and future automation abilities which he insists are the same because it's an identical pump. However, I can't find any information validating this. In addition, I'm concerned about warranty because I can't find a way to register it either on Jacuzzi's website or Leslie's (which apparently is who sells Jacuzzi pumps - vomit).
