Is closing winterize only on the pool side of the pool/spa combo safe?

I want to winterize just the pool on our pool and spa combo so my kids can use the spa during the winter months. The spa is separated away from the pool but shares the same system and water. My system has freeze protection. Can or should I do this? Thanks yall!
