New here and was just wondering what everyones thoughts on Ion generators. Ive had much success with in line units for the ponds Ive installed.
Thanks for your feedback. steve
Honestly we prefer Free Chlorine is the short answer. Ion systems leave bathers much more vulnerable to bulk water pathogens compared to a properly Chlorinated pool. Those that incorporate metals added to the water leave the pool, and people's hair vulnerable to metal staining as well. So, for these reasons, we generally don't suggest using them.
fair enough, can totally understand that. Currently I treat several dozen ponds and the copper ions clear free floating and attached algae up in a matter of days. Fish loss has been minimal and only in ponds under 1,000 gallons. Id love to be able to just plug it in and never have to dose ever again. Wish full thinking.
Copper is an effective algaecide, but it can stain plaster pool surfaces and by itself does not kill pathogens quickly enough and doesn't handle fecal bacteria, etc. Ponds and pools are different.
