Long time. First time. I've been a lurker for many years, but finally signed up.
I live in Dallas, have a 35k pool for 9+ years, and thanks to TPF, I've been my own pool guy for the last ~ 8 years.
Over the past few years, I've had my filter and single speed speed pump upgraded (they died during the electrical outage/freeze and froze over -- but were end of life). I've also replaced a capacitor on my SWG (thanks to what was posted here) and saved myself hundreds as my pool guy said it ended a replacement. The only cost there was an investment in a better soldering iron than my old radio shack basic one that didn't get hot enough and a few capacitors.
I follow the trouble free method and have never had any major issues, knock wood. My pool always looks clear and I always get compliments on how it looks. Y'all have also saved me money by mentioning that you can get muriatic acid at Home Depot and that phosphates are nothing to worry about if your chlorine levels are good.
I probably shouldn't admit it, but I do use test strips to eyeball acid and chlorine in the summer, but I have my Taylor kit for weekly check-ins.
Thanks to all who participate here -- even though I never asked a question. In many cases, y'all answered my question by answering someone else's.
