This type of installation is called dry stack. They cut the stones tight to each other to make it appear like the wall is made of stones stacked upon each other. As opposed to a veneer wall where the joints are 1" wide and mortared together.

Joints can still be filled if you like.

Amanda! I'm soooo far behind on threads! Your pool is going to be a jaw-dropper! I love all your selections. The stacked stone on the back wall is fabulous! And the coping is lovely with the wall and the tile. Your coping is special. The way they put the pieces together is lovely!

I read your pages about the waterline tile. I found my waterline tile was similar in that it seemed like they had different color lots and didn't mix them. Now that there is water in the pool, they aren't obvious. If I take the time to pick it apart, I could tell you where they should have mixed things a little better. But I know how it happens from watching my tile guys. They just pulled one piece out of the box at a time. So whatever order they were in is how they installed the tile. Me - I would have probably laid them all out around the perimeter of the pool and then spent hours mixing them. To be honest, I'm not sure all that time and effort would have changed the overall look by much if any.

When I look at the photos and video of your individual tiles it looks obvious. But the more overall photos look fine. Another thing I've noticed with our pool is that the shadows are always somewhere in the pool at some point in the day hiding most mistakes or variations. So variations that may not be mixed quite right end up looking more like natural shadows and shading. If any of that makes sense.

The total yard rendering is gorgeous! You guys are going to have your very own resort!!!!

I can't wait for the deck!
Suz.

OMG! That is going to be absolutely gorgeous! I love it. And I really love the idea of a pergola at the back for privacy. I kept trying to get my husband to do that! We have two story homes behind us and it's a cul de sac behind us so it seems more than one or two! He didn't quite get it. But now that he's seen your rendering, he's more accepting of the idea. I thing it will help with our west sun too. Anyway! I LOVE what you are doing!!!
