I have the Intex Krystal Clear SWG Model CS8110. It will not generate chlorine in a normal fashion. I have run the boost cycle twice which brings it up to expected levels only to have it drop to 0 free chlorine after the cycle is complete a few hours later. My normal cycle is 5 hours (boost is 8x5). We've had about a week of above 80 degree temperatures but I don't imagine the chorine burning up that fast. Any ideas?

Can you post a complete set of test results to help us understand the pool? I have no idea what your 'expected level' is.

How many ppm did it drop over a few hours?

These are results from test strip now:

A few hours FC was in the 3-5 range while shock cycle was still running. What I meant by expected level was in the 3-5 ppm FC range.

It dropped to 0 ppm in about a 3.5 hour timeframe

The boost cycle is producing chlorine...I'm just not able to stabilize/maintain any ppm level

I'm sorry but I really don't know what to make of that guess strip, I never use them because they are unreliable, and really not all that accurate.

So we think the pool lost 3-5ppm over 3-1/2 hours? That is excessive, and a loss like that indicates organics at work, i.e. algae. The algae is overcoming the chlorine and depleting it faster than the SWG can make it.

Have you added CYA (stabilizer) to the pool?

Your pool will need a SLAM, but that is pretty much impossible with guess strips. You need the accuracy and resolution of a FAS/DPD chlorine test kit.

What is a SLAM? I will pick up an FAS/DPD chlorine test kit or have local pool store test. And yes I believe the pool lost 3-5 ppm over 3.5 hours. Pool is crystal clear so maybe guess strips are not the actual reading. If an algae problem, it would be visible correct?

Pool School - SLAM - Shock Level And Maintain

Algae will usually start off with an unusual chlorine demand, then the water will loose its sparkle and start to look cloudy/murky.

Unfortunately Pool $tore testing has shown to be unreliable as well. You would think that 'pros' would get it right, but we have seen it time and time again where their test results, as well as advice is just incorrect.

There are two test kit that we recommend. The TF-100 from TFtestkits.net, and the Taylor k2006C.

Pool School - Test Kits Compared

Both test kit contain the FAS/DPD test, but the TF-100 is the better value as it has more of the test reagents you use the most.

Once you have a proper kit, you can perform an OCLT to see if organics are at work in your pool.

Pool School - Perform the Overnight FC Loss Test (OCLT)

So I just received my TF-100 kit. Tried a few of the tests and the CYA reveals between 20-30 on the view tube. Total chlorine is high (pool was shocked within the last 4-5 days). I have an SWCG pool. Does the CYA level seem low or is that expected due the pool being shocked?

Did you do the CYA test outside, in bright sunlight, with your back to the sun? Hold the vial by the very top, about waist high and in your shadow when reading the test.

Could you please post a complete set of results including:
FC
CC
pH
TA
CH
CYA

Saying 'TC is high' really doesn't tell us much.
