My wife pushed the buttons while I measured. Took multiple measurements to confirm the following:
Hi speed L1 to L2: 240V, L1 to A: zero V, L2 to A: 240V. Started on two tries but not on the third (just buzz).
Lo speed L2 to A: 240V, L1 to A: 240V, L2 to L1: zero V. Loud buzz but no start.
Note: Buzz is louder starting low than starting hi. Controller is in mode 4. The wiring and programming and mode has been the same for many years without an issue. I noticed the pump fail on 1/26/23 but there may have been loud buzzing prior to that without me (or neighbors) hearing it.
Resistance measurements (CB off):
L2 to L1: 3 ohm
L2 to A: 14 ohm
L1 to A: 12 ohm
L1 to ground: open
L2 to ground: open
A to ground: open
Turned off CB in pool electric panel. Swap wires in controller terminals 4 and 6. Turn on CB. Press circuit 1 button. Buzz but no start. Press circuit 2 button. Buzz but no start. Turn off CB. Pull out line-wire from terminal 2 and load-wires from terminals 4 and 6. Wire-nut load-wire 4 to line-wire 2. Turn on CB. Buzz but no start. Turn off CB. Wire-nut load-wire 6 to line-wire 2. Turn on CB. Buzz but no start. Turn off CB. Reconnect line-wire to terminal 2 (but not the load-wires on 4 and 6). Turn on CB. Press circuit 1 button on. Measure voltage across terms 1 and 4. Got 240V. Measure voltage across terms 1 and 6. Got zero. Measure voltage across terms 4 and 6. Got zero. Press circuit 1 off. Press circuit 2 button on. Measure voltage across terms 1 and 6. Got 240V. Measure voltage across terms 1 and 4. Got zero. Measure voltage across terms 4 and 6. Got zero. Press circuit 2 off.
New Black and Decker VS complete pump arrives tomorrow and, of course, it has its own controller.
Thank you all for your help!
