IntelliFlo VSF Optimal Efficiency

Just FYI. Here some "reported" numbers from my 3HP VSF. The lowest I've checked is 1650rpm that reports 25gpm,260w; 1725-26gpm.298w; 3000-75gpm,1735w; 3450-86gpm, 2530w. These will change as the filter gets dirty, although I use skimmer socks (actual skimmer socks, as I've found they collect a lot more small stuff than hair nets.) Pool is 15k gallons with a raised spa. Two skimmers. Filter is a cartridge unit. Water goes through the filter, then through a UV-C appliance, then through the heater, then goes UP through the IC-40 and on to a split to the spa and pool returns (Pool and spa have 7 returns each returns). I run the pump at 1650rpm 11pm to 5am and 9am to 8pm. The IC-40 is on a separate timer and runs midnight to 4am and 10am to 8pm at 20%.

The pump is already on when the IC-40 comes on, so the flow light on the IC-40 comes on instantly. FC has held steady the last month at 6.5 to 7ppm with CC at -0-. Last several weeks we've had intermittent rain showers--enough that the pool overflow drain has sent water to the street--but the last week has begun to look like our typical summer drought may be here, and water temperature at 2pm is 91-92 degrees, dropping to 90 around 7pm. I don't have anything reporting IC-40 status, so I only know what I see when I look at it. I am an uncontrollable tinker and tweaker of settings, so all the above speeds and schedules may be different next month or next week.

Good Info. I have same VSF pump but have not done RPM vs GPM. When I put mine in I recorded RPM vs Watts based on the algorithm used by Pentair. The goal was to reduce my power usage but have my pump on 24/7. Clearly based on the algorithm I am using 40% less electricity. One day I will measure actual power consumption but not a priority now.

My older Jandy automation does not provide me GPM data because when I synced the pump to the automation I had to pick either VS or VF mode. That is just how Jandy allows the "3rd party" pump to be controlled. I have plans for an IntelliCenter in the future but not critical right now.

Just an observation. 1700 RPM should be about 1/2 the flow of full speed but in your system, it is a ratio of 1/3. Also, at full speed, 2294 watts seem very low for that pump. EnergyStar measurements indicate a flow rate of around 66 GPM (between plumbing curves B & A). The power levels seem very low. At 1400 RPM, is there flow rate out of the returns?

These results also show a 1/3 flow ratio for 1/2 RPM ratio. Very odd.

Based on the Pentair chart, the power at full 3,450 rpm and 81 gpm looks like it should be about 2,500 watts.

At 2,294 watts, it looks like about 62 to 65 gpm.
