Intellichlor not lowering output when in spa mode

Howdy y’all-
I have Easy Touch with IC40 Intellichlor.

It’s my understanding that the SWG will automatically reduce its chlorine output when in spa mode. But I’m not seeing that on the IC40 control panel. It stays the same whether it’s in pool or spa mode. I would expect to see the output LEDs flashing to indicate low output mode?

While trying to troubleshoot, I noticed there is no comms cable between the IC40 and the EasyTouch panel- so how would the cell even know what I have set on my automation if it can’t talk to each other?

Any advice is welcome. I have a video of this if it’s helpful. Thank you!

Does your IntelliChlor system have a separate Power Center box the cell connects to or is the Power Center box integrated into your EasyTouch Load Center?

Show us the chlorinator pool and spa % settings you have in the EasyTouch.

Ray,

The cell cable has 4 wires.. Two are for the DC voltage that runs the cell, and the other two are for the RS-485 (com port) signals.

Did your EasyTouch come with a built-in SWCG power center, or do you have an external SWCG Power Center? If an external power center, it needs to be connected to the EasyTouch's com port.

If you have the Internal SWCG power center, then the Surge card, (mounted to the back wall of the EasyTouch) must be connected to the main card J20 com port.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I have external power center I believe? My easy touch is one of the “compool replacement” versions. Here’s two pics requested

Forgot to reply to this thread sorry. Posted the pics below. Thanks!

Ray,

Do you have a 4-wire cable from your external Power Center to the com port of your EasyTouch upgrade card??

Most people use something like door bell wire

Thanks,

Jim R.
Nope! That’s the culprit! Thank you! How do I tap into the coms signal from the power center, do you know?

I already have a VS pump plugged into the com port on the easy touch. So based on what I’m reading, I can just splice in the 2 intellichlor COM’s wires in there as well?

Ray,

The card in the Power Center has the same 4 pin plug that is in the EasyTouch.. It is as simple matching the colors or pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, etc..

Thanks,

Jim R.
According to the manual (which is not totally clear!) I think I only need the two data wires connected and not the power wires. So I’m going to try that first.

I assume it’s okay to have the VS Pump COM wires share the input terminals with the Intellichlor COM wires??

Ray,

There is only one com port, so everything has to share the port..

Try two wires and see if it works.. I "think" you will need the four wires as the external card will also need the low voltage power, but don't know that for sure..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Success!! It only needed the two data wires. Thanks so much for everyone that helped me debug this here!
