Insulate AGP that's partially buried before backfilling?

Hello,
New owner, AGP just installed this week. Still need to backfill around partially buried 28' Doughboy pool in our sloped yard. Have been told that it is recommended to put at least 1/2" thick styrofoam insulation around pool wall panels before backfilling with clay soil that came from original excavation. I've seen other posts that said this will encourage rusting of pool walls - which is correct? We are in NC WI so lots of freezing/thawing!

Thanks!

I'm curious about this, as well. I will be installing a Doughboy Saratoga 32x16 in a few weeks and our soil is glacial silt, which packs well, but I wanted to add a layer of protection around the pool walls to keep the rocky stuff from potentially scratching off the protective coats.
