I spent about 2 weeks slamming my pool. It turned it from dark dark green to blue. Although it was blue it was very cloudy the whole time.
I ended up switching out a new multiport valve because it was leaking to waste when running and the pressure gauge was broken.
(Yes, I know I could have replaced the spider gasket but it was glued in and I was trying to have a clean pool by the 4th and didn’t have time to deal with it.)
When we opened our Hayward sand filter we noticed the pvc on the standpipe was broken all the way down (even the lateral housing was cracked.) Explains the sand getting in the pool and cloudy water.
I’m getting a new standpipe delivered today. I saved my old sand in 5 gallon buckets, it was very clean) and bought an extra bag just in case. I read on here to fill with water before adding sand back.
How much water should I add?
How much sand should I add? There’s no label on the side of the old filter so I don’t know the model.
Should sand be filled typically 1/2 way? 3/4 way?
Do I add more water afterwards to help the priming process or just let the pump fill up the filter?
Do you backwash and rinse first once it’s all set back up?
Any tips on putting it all back together would be greatly appreciated. Hoping it clears up quickly!
FYI it’s a 26,000 gallon inground pool. I’m not sure about the size of the filter. I’m guessing 400 or 500 lb sand filter.
Thank you!
