If I install a sacrificial anode (I know some do not believe that they work), I am aware that it has to be bonded. Does it have to be bonded to the SAME line as the equipment it is protecting or can it be grounded separately? I am thinking of having it in the skimmer basket but grounded to the concrete patio. Thoughts? My piping is pretty rigid, so installing the in line one would be difficult.

The sacrificial anode must be electrically connected to the metals it is protecting. The easiest way to do that is connecting it to the pool #8 bare bonding wire.

I don't use one. There is no metal in modern pool equipment you need to protect.

What are you looking to protect?
