Inherited a Green Pool - Where do I start?

My pool is finally clear! I tested a few things tonight, vacuumed up and am doing the OCLT test tonight.

FC 8.5
CC 0
CYA 30 (I think, hard to tell for sure)

I'll do the pH again when the FC comes down. Should I add more CYA to bring that up to 40 or so, or is it ok here?

Excited to see how your first OCLT goes! As long as you're using Taylor chemistry for the ph test, any FC under 10 is okay to do the ph test on.
Did you do the FC test after your vac? Did you bring it back up to 12 or doing OCLT from 8.5?
I'm not an expert on CYA levels for your area, but as long as you're only losing 1-3 ppm/day you're good I imagine. If you're losing 4 for several days in a row, I'd go 40 and see if it helped. Let's not add CYA until after you pass an OCLT or two.

Passed OCLT with shining colors, 0ppm lost! We got to swim in it tonight, the kids were ecstatic. It was cold but fun.

Thanks for everyone's help, it made this so much easier!

I opened my pool with similar circumstances this spring. I did the SLAM and it took 10 days or so of attention to get to crystal clear balanced water. Daily monitoring has kept it beautiful. Thanks to TFP and the best test kit!

Congratulations to you both! Thanks to TerriP for becoming a bronze supporter too! Don't be a stranger stewlacher54, feel free to start a thread should you have any issues keeping up your TFP that you can't find an answer for in Pool School or another thread! This thread will still be here, should you need to reflect back on it too. Some of us that helped will stay subscribed to it (notified of new posts) but some will not, so it can be hit or miss if you post in this thread a long time from now. I'm really glad TFP worked out for you! No pressure, but should you feel it right for you, here is the link to do as TerriP did and become a supporter!
