Hi,
I have and 11 y.o. inground salt water pool. I had a leak, tear in deep end a couple of months ago. Water was going down about 3" a day. My pool company couldn't come right away, so after a few days, I ended up finding the hole and patching it myself. Everything seemed fine then, last Wednesday it started leaking again, the patch had come loose. I cut a larger patch and when attempting to put it on, my hand went thru the vinyl liner. There was nothing behind it! (My pool has a vermiculite bottom.) My pool company had someone come and cut the liner and I had a huge hole in the bottom corner! They say it can be fixed by filling with rock and criss crossing rebar, then concrete, then redoing the vermiculite and a new liner of course. Does this sound like a reasonable solution? I want to feel safe in my pool after it is fixed. During original construction, there was a hugh limstone rock that they had to chisel down, on the side, close to the affected area. I feel like this may of had something to do with the wall collapse but not sure. Any suggestions welcome.

Would you have any pics of the original build in the excavation phase?
All that dirt had to wash to somewhere. I would think any type of fix would require figuring out where it is going. Does the hole seem to keep going?
I do have pics of original build but will have to dig those out, that was 11 years ago. The hole does seem to keep going.

Theres a vein in there somewhere taking the fine soils with the water. You gotta open that up somewhat amd get to something solid. A concrete patch is fine but it has to have something backing it up. A rebar reinforced patch wont hold if its hollow behind the patch
