I live in Mississippi where the temp rarely gets below freezing. My neighbor has trees and the leaves fall in my pool all fall and winter. A leaf net still allows debris in the pool. I really don't want to drain and scoop it out again next year. I was thinking of putting a cover on. Should I go through all of the closing steps or just continue as usual but with a cover?

Continue as usual with a cover. Pull it back from time to time to check on the chemicals and do a general inspection, but the cover should help you quite a bit.
True that. I will be putting my cover on this weekend for that same reason but not winterizing yet. I'll do that first week of November.
