I left the autocover off in anticipation of water (and drained it a bit yesterday so I didn't have to worry about the pool cover being on and pumping off it)

Added 16 oz calcium hypochlorite after I saw this either way. Thanks for your thoughts and knowledge!

First - the last thing you need to add is calcium. In Tucson, your fill water has plenty of calcium in it.

If you have cloudy water, first do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. You need a FAS-DPD test kit for FC testing to do that test.

Then follow the SLAM Process if necessary.
Thanks for the response. My fill water calcium was 300. I actually drove it up with sun joe chloride (to get it to 400(
This was a question in regards to rain. My water was totally clear and 30 minutes later I had somewhat murky spa water whole the pool was clear. I don't anticipate FC fell below 9 for that 30 minute period - and was asking why would that have happened.

Your fill water will raise your CH very high in a short time due to evaporation. Even with a cover you get some evaporation. No need to add calcium.
Hard to say on the water clarity. Could be dirt washed in with the rain.

Well re calcium I won't do that again of course. My calcium was between 250-300 for a full 45 days before I decided to add calcium (I was using calcium hypochlorite prefentially to drive the calcium upwards). I suspect (without testing) that my fill calcium is (unusually for Arizona - and no water softener) only 250ish. I have minimal evaporation due to an automatic cover.

I guess it was dirt. Oh well.
