impeller rating on upgraded single speed to 2-speed motor and/or VS motors.

I'm replacing my single speed 2.6 THP motor with a 2-speed with the same horsepower rating.
I was wondering about low speed horsepower vs. the impeller size?

I assume I don't have to change out the impeller...but I read a few threads about using a higher rated impeller with a lower horsepower.
The reasoning behind the question is : I assume the lower speed somehow might de-rate the horsepower rating and therefore the impeller would be oversized for low speed.

But something tells me this isn't quite right, and that my impeller is fine. Is this true?

I have the same question about VS motors. I assume the impeller is simply sized for whatever THP rating is on the motor, regardless of the speed it operates.

If your high-speed THP rating of the new motor is 2.6 you don't need to change the impeller. Be careful that it is 2.6 (a full-rated 2-speed) and not 2.25 (an up-rated 2-speed). As the speed drops the load the impeller puts on the motor also drops and you don't have to worry.
