I'm lousy at balancing water. 250 Gal Hot tub, kept at 80 F unless bumped up to 100 for humans. TH, Which I assume is measuring calcium, is at zero.

I have a TH level of zero. Added 6 oz dry acid all at once ( oops) and FC and TC turned a very dark brown. I finally drained the tub and refilled it.
Is there a Hot Tub Chemistry for Dummies available?
It would be very very hard to have zero calcium hardness so I suspect the testing kit used is not reliable.

Also, with your Hot Tub, the much smaller volume of water means things get out of balance much more quickly, and a small amount of chemical goes a LONG way.

I plan on draining/refilling my Hot Tub probably 3-4 times a year. I generally use Dichlor after a fill until my CYA hits 30-40, and then Liquid Chlorine after that. I tend to test FC each day before we use the tub, PH and TA weekly. I typically don't have to do too much with TA, acid as required to keep the PH around 7.4. I can usually tell it needs acid by the bubbles. As everything is Titanium, Acrylic or PVC, I don't worry too much about CH.

Typically, we add 1/2-1cup of LC each day we use the tub. I tend to throw it all in at once, usually first thing in the morning after I test so that the tub is ready to go if the wife decides we're jumping in ;)

Sounds like a lot, but you have to think that two people in the 450 gallon tub is like 110 people in my pool...and with 40 CYA, I can comfortably go up to 16 FC, so a full cup basically takes me to 'SLAM' level from 0.
