I'm Addicted When It Comes To FC Testing

Okay! by now, I should know how much chlorine to add to my pool without testing. I have an idea of how much FC lost I have per day. However, I still find myself testing for FC levels in the morning and in the evening hours.

I used to test FC, pH and CC only in morning hours, but I've reverted back to my "twice a day" schedule of FC testing. I'm trying to snap out of this frequent testing as I think it is not needed. Is anyone else here an addict with FC testing? Why can't I slow down with FC testing? As far as the other testing TA, CYA & CH, I test these every week. I know that there's a testing schedule on the forum, but I think I'm being a bit excessive here. I just don't know why and if I need to slow down a bit. Mmmmm...I may need some form of intervention

Step away from the test kit Mam! Once a day on FC is fine. Unless you have some sorta crazy ph swing....every 3 or 4 days is plenty. Follow our recommended schedule and you'll be just fine.
QUIT EYEBALLING THAT KIT! I SAW YOU!

LOL...I will try for sure...I'm going to step away from it and only follow the recommended schedule. My husband just told me that I'll have to put a dollar in a jar everytime I violate the recommended schedule. Let's see how much money my husband will make this week. :D I guarantee he'll NOT make a dime off me. Keeping my fingers crossed. LOL

If you have a high bather load/party, you would want to test prior to and after. Even during if there are any doubts. It's almost midnight but I had 7 teenagers and a dog swimming tonight so I'll be testing FC shortly even though I added 4 PPM at 5 PM to achieve target level. My water temp is 90 so I take no chances. I had 11 people(and 2 dogs) in my pool on Sunday and needed +7 PPM FC to compensate.

I see a new business venture opportunity here! Testing all of the pools in your area and some who aren't.

Have Test Kit Will Travel!

You can start with my pool. I only test every couple weeks because, well, I'm just lazy that way. :)

In all honesty, it’s a great way to learn your pool.

You’ll get to know it’s likes and dislikes, as well as it’s mood swings. So, I say test away!

I was the same as you my first year, and now I test it on average twice a week.

LOL Dave...I should carry my test kit around my neighborhood and start testing other people's pool...just to tell them they're are doing it all wrong...LOL...

But yeah! I am beginning to understand the chemistry of my pool. Last night I added enough chlorine to bring my FC up (a tad bit) over 8 (making it 9). My cya is 50. I lose less than 1ppm of FC overnight so this morning, I stepped away from the test kit and TOLD MYSELF (no testing this morning). I'll wait until this evening to test my water. I'm going to follow the Pool School - Basic Pool Care Schedule. I've tested enough, for months now, to know how my pool reacts. LOL... I'm actually starring at my kit in front of me...eeerrgghhh. I can do it ... I can do it.... I'll wait until this evening to test my FC, CC and pH.

I find myself over testing too. Problem I have is bordering on parnaoia--"I think the FC may be too low." "What's that smell? Is that CC? Do I need to bump the FC?" Or recently: "The water doesn't seem as sparkly as I recall. Maybe I need to SLAM...". All good reasons for more testing :p

Ohh, almost forgot. Yesterday I took the kids up to my folks place --they have a 30k in ground. Brought the kit and ran full numbers for Poppa-Joe (just cause I'm a good son)....Help me....

Mendy, that behavior is fairly normal around here. It's one of the symptoms of sparklypoolitis.

Don't worry, the novelty will wear off soon enough. You might burn through an extra tub of powder and an extra bottle of drops, but just think of the hours of amusement they gave you. It's cheap entertainment.

In the not-so-distant future, you will know your pool so well that you will be able to predict the test results with amazing accuracy. In time, you'll also learn to recognize subtle changes in the sparkle that tell you the pH is starting to get too high without using the test kit. I kid you not.
